New student

Welcome to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and education in Umeå! Below are some tips to help you during your first days as a student.

There's a lot to consider as a new student: Where will you live? What do you need to do to enrol on your first course? Where is the university located? How do you find the orientation session? How do you apply for student finance from CSN?

Take a seat and relax.

The first thing you should do if you've accepted a place on the Forestry degree programme in Umeå is to make sure you have somewhere to live when term begins. There are several landlords in Umeå and many different areas to choose from. AB Bostaden is the municipal housing company and the largest provider. If you have just over a year's waiting time, it's usually not difficult to secure a student room with them. However, if you're looking for something larger, you may need more points on the housing queue.

Umeå Municipality has a useful list of other landlords and information about residential areas here.

If you're unable to find accommodation, the student union has two temporary rental apartments. See more under Renting accommodation and get in touch with the welcome coordinators who will be happy to assist you!

The university is located at Skogsmarksgränd 17, 90736 Umeå. To enrol on your first course and thereby the programme, you must attend the orientation session on the first day. SLU staff will be at the entrances to welcome you and show you the way to the orientation in the Aula. If you are unable to attend, please contact the study administrator.

You apply for student finance through CSN. You can do this as soon as you have received your admission notice. A tip is to apply for finance for the full academic year to secure your finances and avoid having to apply again before the spring term.

As a new student, you are warmly invited to the welcome week, starting 30 August!

We hope you enjoy your time at Skogis!
